Key Robot vs Infisical

Updated October 2026

Infisical is for a team that wants an open source vault it can self-host, with rotation as one paid feature among many. Key Robot is for a developer who wants the keys themselves to actually change, without counting identities against a plan limit.

Infisical's own pricing page lists the free plan at 5 identities, 3 environments, and 10 secret syncs, with no rotation included, checked October 24, 2026. Pro is $20 per identity a month billed annually, and only covers rotation "for public databases." Full rotation across every secret type is on the Advanced plan, $40 per identity a month.

The identity count matters more than it sounds. Infisical counts every human and every machine, including each CI job and each service, as its own identity. A two-service app with one developer can use up the free plan's 5 identities faster than it looks like it should.

When to pick Infisical

Pick Infisical if self-hosting matters to you, or if you want one open source vault for a team's whole mix of secrets, and you're fine paying per identity once rotation is the feature you need.

When to pick Key Robot

Pick Key Robot if you don't want to count identities at all. You just want a specific key, say your Neon database password or your Resend key, to actually change every day, from infrastructure you already run.

Key Robot locks each key in your browser before it's ever sent, saves it as an encrypted GitHub Actions secret in your own GitHub account, and never stores the key on its own server. It makes a new key, checks your app still works, and deletes the old one, daily. If the check fails, the old key comes back automatically. A Kill it now button handles a key that leaked right now. We timed it on our own demo app on October 23, 2026: 82 seconds from pressing the button to the old key being dead.

That's live today for Neon, Resend and Supabase keys, on apps hosted on Netlify or Vercel. Cloudflare and OpenAI are built and being tested. Free for one app, no card.

The honest gap

Infisical can store and sync every kind of secret your team has, self-hosted if you want it. Key Robot stores nothing, and only rotates the specific services it supports. If your real need is a self-hosted vault, Infisical is the right tool. If your real need is "make this key change on its own," Infisical still charges per identity to get there, and Key Robot does not.

Questions

Does Infisical rotate secrets on its free plan?

No. Infisical's free plan has no rotation. Its Pro plan covers rotation for public databases only. Full rotation across every secret type starts on the Advanced plan, at $40 per identity a month.

What counts as an identity on Infisical's paid plans?

Every human and every machine that reads a secret, including each CI job or service. A small app with two services can hit the free plan's 5-identity cap fast.

Is Key Robot open source like Infisical?

Infisical is open source and can be self-hosted. Key Robot is not a vault you host yourself. It's a hosted robot that runs the rotation job inside your own GitHub Actions.
