Key Robot vs Doppler

Updated October 2026

Doppler is for a team that wants one shared vault for every secret it owns, and is willing to pay per seat for it. Key Robot is for a developer who wants their keys to actually change on a schedule, without taking on a vault at all.

Doppler's numbers come straight from its own pricing page, checked October 24, 2026. The Developer plan is free for up to 3 users, then $8 a month per extra seat, and it does not include rotation at all. Rotation only shows up on the Team plan, $21 a month per user after a 14-day trial.

When to pick Doppler

Pick Doppler if your team already stores a mix of secrets, API keys, database URLs, certificates, and you want one dashboard and one audit log for all of it, with SSO for a growing team. That breadth is Doppler's real strength, and Key Robot does not try to match it.

When to pick Key Robot

Pick Key Robot if the actual problem is that your keys never change. You don't need a new place to store secrets. You need the ones you have to get replaced automatically, without adding a $21-per-seat line to your bill before rotation even turns on.

Key Robot runs in your own GitHub Actions. It locks each key in your browser before anything is sent, saves it as an encrypted GitHub Actions secret, and never stores the key itself. Every day, for a connected service, it makes a new key, checks your app still works, and deletes the old one. If the check fails, it puts the old key back on its own. There's also a Kill it now button for a key that leaked right now, not on the daily schedule. We timed it on our own demo app on October 23, 2026: 82 seconds from pressing the button to the old key being dead.

Today that covers Neon, Resend and Supabase keys, for apps hosted on Netlify or Vercel. Cloudflare and OpenAI are built and being tested. It's free for one app, no card needed.

The honest gap

Doppler stores many kinds of secrets for a whole team, with roles and an audit trail. Key Robot stores nothing and only rotates the specific keys it supports today. If you need a shared vault, Key Robot is not that. If you need those specific keys to actually change, Doppler charges a per-seat fee to get there and Key Robot does not.

Questions

Does Doppler rotate API keys on its free plan?

No. Doppler's free Developer plan covers up to 3 users and does not include automatic rotation. Rotation is a feature of the Team plan, which costs $21 per user a month after a 14-day trial.

Is Key Robot cheaper than Doppler?

For rotation specifically, yes. Key Robot rotates Neon, Resend and Supabase keys for free, for one app, with no card. Doppler needs its $21-per-user Team plan before rotation turns on at all.

Can I use Key Robot and Doppler together?

Yes. Doppler can keep storing your team's other secrets while Key Robot rotates the specific keys it supports. They don't conflict.
